Zaydid Alids of Tabaristan, Daylam and Gilan

864 – 928
EmirateAsia

A Zaydi Shia Alid emirate established in the Caspian mountain region of Tabaristan (Mazandaran), the first sustained independent Zaydi state and a seedbed for the later Buyid and Ziyarid dynasties.

Interrupted by a Samanid occupation in 900, restored in 914 by another Alid branch, and finally extinguished by a second Samanid conquest in 928; local Zaydi rule persisted longer in neighboring Daylam and Gilan.
