Wusun

176 BC – 400
ConfederationAsia

Indo-European (likely Iranian or Tocharian-affiliated) nomadic confederation of the Ili Valley and Zhetysu, a major Han-era diplomatic partner against the Xiongnu and a key Silk Road steppe power.

Pressured by the expanding Rouran confederation in the 5th century; scattered remnants may have migrated to the Pamirs and been absorbed into the Hephthalite confederation, with the Wusun's last mention in Chinese sources in 938 CE (much reduced from their earlier power).
