Wessex culture

2000 BC – 1500 BC
CultureEurope

Elite Early Bronze Age culture of southern Britain defined by rich barrow burials containing gold, amber, and faience, associated with the final construction phases of Stonehenge.

Ended around 1400–1200 BCE as the Wessex II phase closed and was succeeded by the Knighton Heath cultural period of Middle Bronze Age Britain, with the distinctive rich-grave tradition of the Wessex culture fading out.
