A group of related Late Woodland archaeological cultures across the northern Gulf Coast — the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama, southern Georgia, and peninsular Florida — defined by a distinctive 'sacred' ceremonial ceramic complex found in mounds, alongside locally varied everyday 'secular' pottery. Its ceremonial component grew out of the Hopewellian Yent/Green Point traditions; its secular pottery traditions grew out of the earlier Swift Creek and Deptford cultures.
The sacred/ceremonial mound complex persisted regionally into the early Mississippian period, fading out by roughly the end of the Woodland period (c. 1000-1200 AD) as Fort Walton and related Mississippian-influenced cultures emerged in the same territory.
