The Wattasid Dynasty was initially supplanted when Muhammad al-Shaykh captured Fez on 31 January 1549, but a brief Ottoman-backed Wattasid restoration under Ali Abu Hassun retook Fez in early 1554; Muhammad al-Shaykh defeated and killed Abu Hassun at the Battle of Tadla in September 1554 and re-entered Fez on 13 September 1554, finally ending Wattasid power.
