Wassoulou Empire (Samori Touré)

Mandinka military empire of Samori Touré, the last major West African resistance to France.

The Wassoulou Empire of Samori Touré ended on 29 September 1898 when French forces captured Samori himself near Guélému (present-day Côte d'Ivoire); he was exiled to Gabon where he died on 2 June 1900, and the empire was absorbed into French West Africa.
