The Japanese-sponsored collaborationist government of former KMT leader Wang Jingwei, proclaimed at Nanjing in March 1940 as the 'legitimate' Republic of China; it absorbed the Provisional and Reformed governments and nominally governed occupied central, eastern and northern China.
Dissolved 16 August 1945, the day after Japan's surrender broadcast; its leaders were tried by the restored ROC (Chen Gongbo executed 1946), and its territory returned to the Republic of China.
