Wadai Sultanate

Islamic sultanate east of Lake Chad on the trans-Saharan slave and ivory routes.

France conquered Wadai after the Wadai War, occupying the capital Abéché in June 1909 and suppressing the last resistance by 1912, incorporating the sultanate into the French Military Territory of Chad.
