Veneti (Armorica)

300 BC – 56 BC
CultureEurope

Seafaring Gaulish tribe of Armorica (modern Brittany) who dominated Channel and Atlantic trade with Britain, defeated by Caesar's fleet in a major naval battle in the Gulf of Morbihan (56 BCE).

After their naval defeat, Caesar executed the Veneti senate and sold the rest of the population into slavery as a deterrent to other Gaulish tribes; Armorica was absorbed into Roman Gaul.
