Vandals (migration era)

406 – 429
ConfederationEurope

East Germanic peoples (Hasdingi and Silingi branches) who crossed the Rhine into Roman Gaul in 406 and migrated through Iberia over the following decades before crossing to North Africa in 429; this record covers the European migration phase only, distinct from the later African Vandal Kingdom.

In 429 King Gaiseric led the Vandals and allied Alans across the Strait of Gibraltar into Roman North Africa, founding the Vandal Kingdom there (a separate canonical record, vandal_kingdom, 435-534); the European phase effectively ends with this crossing, with vestigial Iberian presence fading by the mid-430s as the Visigoths and Sueves absorbed the remaining Iberian peninsula.
