CultureEurope

Turkic nomadic equestrian people who flourished on the Pontic-Caspian steppe in the 6th century, east of and closely related to the Kutrigurs, and possibly related to the Bulgars; allied at times with the Byzantine Empire against the Kutrigurs.

Faded as a distinct political force by the early 7th century; their Bulgar-related groups were absorbed into or superseded by the Onogur/Bulgar confederations that coalesced into Old Great Bulgaria (632) under Kubrat.
