Ended as an independent city-state when conquered by the Akkadian Empire under Sargon of Akkad c. 2334 BCE; the city continued under Akkadian, Gutian, and Ur III rule, and was permanently abandoned c. 450 BCE as the Euphrates River shifted its course.
