Umayyad Caliphate in North Africa

647 – 750
CaliphateAfrica

Arab conquest of the Maghreb under the Umayyads, establishing Ifriqiya and Islam across North Africa.

Umayyad rule over the Maghreb ended when the Abbasid revolution overthrew the Umayyad Caliphate in 750 CE; Ifriqiya then passed through Abbasid governors until it was granted as a hereditary emirate to Ibrahim ibn al-Aghlab, founding the Aghlabid dynasty, in 800 CE.
