Twipra Kingdom (Tripura, Manikya dynasty)

A kingdom of the Tripuri people ruled by the Manikya dynasty from the early 15th century, straddling the forested hills of Tripura and the fertile plains toward eastern Bengal. At its height it controlled a large swathe of the northeastern frontier and minted its own coinage; from 1809 it came under British influence, becoming a princely state that maintained its Manikya rulers until union with India in 1949.

Transitioned to a British princely state (from 1809) and merged into the Republic of India in 1949.
