Successor to the Rinpungpa, ruling Tsang and much of Tibet from Shigatse and backing the Karma Kagyu school against the rising Gelug/Dalai Lama faction.
Defeated in 1642 when Güshi Khan's Khoshut Mongol army besieged Shigatse and executed the last king Karma Tenkyong, installing the Fifth Dalai Lama's Ganden Phodrang government.
