Trưng Sisters' Kingdom (Lạc Việt uprising)

40 – 43
KingdomAsia

Three-year interlude of Lạc Việt self-rule in the Han commandery of Jiaozhi (northern Vietnam), led by the sisters Trưng Trắc and Trưng Nhị, who rose against Han administration in 40 AD; Trưng Trắc was acclaimed ruler (taking the title Nữ vương, "queen") over roughly 65 walled towns.

Crushed in 42-43 AD by a Han expeditionary army under general Ma Yuan; by most Vietnamese chronicle accounts the sisters drowned themselves rather than surrender, and Han direct rule over Jiaozhi was restored.
