ConfederationOceania

The northern Fijian confederacy centered on Taveuni and Vanua Levu, corresponding to the historical Cakaudrove chiefdom and Tui Cakau paramount chiefly title.

Dissolved as a sovereign political entity upon British colonial annexation of Fiji on 10 October 1874, when Ma'afu (head of the Tovata confederacy) and senior chiefs signed the Deed of Cession; traditional chiefly structures were retained in ceremonial form under British indirect rule.
