Toltec (Tula)

650 – 1150
KingdomNorth America

Warrior-state of central Mexico whose colonnaded halls and stone Atlantean warriors at Tula made it the legendary Tollan that later Aztecs claimed as their golden ancestor.

Drought, soil exhaustion and Chichimec incursions broke the city; Tula was largely abandoned by c.1150, its memory mythologized by the Aztec who saw the Toltecs as the fount of all civilization.
