Thracians (early / pre-state)

An Indo-European people of the eastern Balkans and lower Danube region, known from Greek literary sources as a diverse tribal society occupying Thrace before the formation of any unified Thracian kingdom.

Consolidated into the first organized Thracian state, the Odrysian Kingdom, around the beginning of the 5th century BCE under king Teres I, ending the pre-state tribal phase; the remaining Thracian territories were progressively annexed by Rome, culminating in the formal annexation of the last client kingdom as the Roman province of Thracia in 46 CE.
