Sovereign stateAfrica

Era of divided rule by Libyan dynasties, Theban priest-kings and the Kushite conquest.

The Third Intermediate Period (Dynasties 21–25, c. 1069–664 BCE) ended when the Assyrian Empire under Ashurbanipal sacked Thebes (the 'No-Amun' of biblical record) in 664 BCE and expelled the Kushite 25th Dynasty, after which the Saite (26th) Dynasty reunified Egypt under Assyrian vassalage, inaugurating the Late Period.
