Tchefuncte Culture

Early Woodland (Tchula period) archaeological culture of the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast / Pontchartrain Basin, named for its type site near Mandeville, St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. Among the earliest pottery-making, semi-sedentary societies of the Lower Mississippi Valley.

Succeeded in the same Lower Mississippi Valley / Gulf Coast region by the Hopewellian-influenced Marksville culture in the early centuries CE.
