Tây Sơn dynasty

1778 – 1802
DynastyAsia

Peasant-rebellion dynasty founded by the three Tay Son brothers (Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue, Nguyen Lu) that overthrew both the Nguyen lords in the south and the Trinh lords/Le emperors in the north, briefly reunifying Vietnam under Emperor Quang Trung — including his 1789 rout of a Qing invasion force at the Battle of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da.

Collapsed under a restoration campaign by the surviving Nguyen lord claimant Nguyen Anh, who captured the last Tay Son emperor in 1802 and founded the Nguyen dynasty, unifying Vietnam under a new imperial line.
