An Indianized Malay Peninsula kingdom centered on present-day Nakhon Si Thammarat in southern Thailand, first noted in the Buddhist Mahaniddesa text; a maritime trading polity linked to, and at times under the influence of, Srivijaya, which traded with Song-dynasty China and clashed with the Chola Empire and the Khmer during the 11th-13th centuries.
Reached its peak under King Chandrabhanu in the mid-13th century (attested by his 1230 Chaiya inscription) before being absorbed into the emerging Thai political sphere; superseded by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Kingdom by 1277.
