An Islamic maritime sultanate centered in the southern Philippines that controlled the lucrative trade in slaves, spices, and forest products across the Sulu Sea.

Formally dissolved on 22 March 1915 when Sultan Jamalul Kiram II signed the Carpenter Agreement, relinquishing all political sovereignty over territories to the United States Insular Government while retaining only religious authority.
