A Malay Islamic sultanate on Borneo's northwest coast, founded 1609 under Muhammad Saifuddin I; it became a Dutch protectorate and joined the Republic of the United States of Indonesia in 1950, with formal dissolution following in 1956.

Absorbed into the Dutch East Indies and then Indonesia, its sultanate dissolved in 1950.
