Sultanate of Bone

The leading Bugis kingdom of the South Sulawesi peninsula, Bone traces its ruling line to the early 15th century and adopted Islam in 1611. Under Arung Palakka, allied to the Dutch VOC, it defeated Makassar/Gowa in the Makassar War (1666-69) and became the paramount power of South Sulawesi until the 19th century, when the Dutch conquered it in 1905.

Conquered by the Dutch in 1905 and succeeded by the Bone Regency; the monarchy was later abolished in independent Indonesia.
