Major Zhou-dynasty state of the Shandong peninsula, enfeoffed to Jiang Ziya after the Zhou conquest of Shang (c. 1046 BC); grew into one of the seven great Warring States, famed for the Jixia Academy at its capital Linzi.
Conquered by Qin in 221 BC, the last of the six rival states to fall, completing Qin's unification of China.
