State of Burma

The Japanese-sponsored state declared independent on 1 August 1943 under Adipadi (head of state) Ba Maw; it declared war on Britain and the US the same day and joined the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.

Collapsed with the British reconquest — Rangoon fell 2-3 May 1945 and the Ba Maw government fled with the Japanese; British administration resumed.
