State of Maranhão & Grão-Pará

A second, autonomous Portuguese state of the equatorial north, governing Maranhão and the vast Amazon basin of Grão-Pará directly from Lisbon.

Renamed Grão-Pará e Maranhão (1751), then split (1772) and dissolved as a separate state in 1774-75, its territory folded into the unified colony of Brazil.
