Srivijaya

650 – 1275
EmpireAsia

A Sumatran maritime empire that dominated trade between the Indian Ocean and South China Sea for six centuries, making it the dominant commercial and Buddhist learning center of the Malay world.

Gradually collapsed following the devastating Chola naval raids of 1025 CE and subsequent decline; Majapahit delivered the final blow in 1377 by defeating Palembang, the former Srivijayan capital, extinguishing the last efforts to revive the thalassocracy.
