The westernmost great Mississippian centre, where Caddoan leaders amassed a 'Great Mortuary' of engraved shell, copper and textiles in the hollow Craig Mound.

Residents dispersed to nearby villages after ~1250 while Spiro endured as a sacred mortuary until ~1450, when ceremonial use finally ceased.
