Spanish Netherlands

The southern rump of the Habsburg Netherlands (the Seventeen Provinces inherited from the Burgundian Valois in 1482) that stayed loyal to the Spanish Habsburg crown after the 1581 secession of the northern Dutch Republic during the Eighty Years' War; held in personal union with Spain but never formally annexed to it, and defended by the Army of Flanders.

Transferred to the Austrian Habsburgs as the Austrian Netherlands under the 1713-1715 treaties (Utrecht/Rastatt) that ended the War of the Spanish Succession.
