Song Dynasty

960 – 1279
EmpireAsia

The Song dynasty was an era of remarkable technological and commercial innovation — gunpowder weapons, movable type, the compass — despite constant military pressure from northern steppe empires that eventually halved its territory.

The Song dynasty ended in 1279 CE when the Mongol Yuan dynasty defeated the last Song loyalist fleet at the Battle of Yamen, ending Song resistance and completing the Mongol conquest of China.
