The Somavamshi (Keshari, 'Lunar dynasty') rulers of Odisha, who displaced the Bhauma-Kara dynasty and absorbed the Panduvamshi-descended nobility to unite the Kalinga and Utkala regions from the reign of Janamejaya I (c. 882), overseeing a lasting shift in the region from Buddhism to Brahmanical Hinduism and a distinctive temple-building tradition.
The last Somavamshi king, Karnadeva (r. c. 1100-1110/14), was overthrown by the Eastern Ganga ruler Anantavarman Chodaganga, whose dynasty absorbed the Somavamshi domains by 1114.
