Shijiahe culture

2500 BC – 2000 BC
CultureAsia

Late Neolithic culture centered on the middle Yangtze River region in Shijiahe, Tianmen, Hubei, China. Succeeded the already-in Qujialing culture, inheriting its distinctive painted spindle whorls, and is marked by large fortified settlements, advanced agriculture, and specialized jade and pottery-figurine craftsmanship.

Declined by the start of the 2nd millennium BC; the middle Yangtze region was later absorbed into the broader early Bronze Age cultural sphere of central China.
