Founded by Hemanta Sen, a former Pala feudatory who asserted independence as Pala power waned; the Senas were the last major Hindu dynasty to rule Bengal before the Delhi Sultanate's conquest.
Overthrown by Bakhtiyar Khalji's Turkic invasion of Bengal beginning c. 1204, with a residual Sena line surviving in eastern Bengal (Vikramapura) until c. 1230.
