Second Intermediate Period of Egypt

Fragmented era of rival Theban and Hyksos rule preceding the New Kingdom.

The Second Intermediate Period (c. 1650–1550 BCE) ended when the Theban 17th Dynasty ruler Ahmose I defeated and expelled the Hyksos from Avaris c. 1550 BCE, reunifying Egypt and founding the New Kingdom (18th Dynasty).
