A Germanic people first recorded in the late 3rd century BC raiding Olbia near the Black Sea; by the late 4th century AD they lived north of the Black Sea and Lower Danube alongside the Goths, one of the easternmost and earliest-attested Germanic peoples.

Subdued by the Huns in the early 5th century and fought under Attila at the Catalaunian Plains (451); broke free after the Battle of Nedao (454) and held a short-lived kingdom on the Middle Danube under Edeko, destroyed by the Ostrogoths at the Battle of Bolia (468/469). Edeko's son Odoacer went on to depose the last Western Roman emperor in 476.
