Sadlermiut

An ancient, isolated Inuit people of Southampton Island who kept archaic tools and dialect until disease erased them in a single winter.

Wiped out in the winter of 1902-03 by an epidemic brought on a Scottish whaler; only one woman and four children survived. Extinct 1903.

• 1500 The Dorset vanish The last Paleo-Inuit disappear as the Thule complete their conquest of the Arctic; the Sadlermiut of Southampton Island, who survived into the 1900s, were long thought a Tuniit remnant, though 2015 genetics ties them to the Thule.
