Principality of Moldavia

The Romanian principality east of the Carpathians and along the Prut and Siret rivers, founded c. 1346, which resisted Ottoman, Polish, and Hungarian pressures and produced Stephen the Great before uniting with Wallachia in 1859.

United with the Principality of Wallachia in 1859 under Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza to form the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia, which became the Kingdom of Romania in 1881.
