An aristocratic interregnum in eastern Georgia (Kartli) after the Sasanians abolished the Chosroid monarchy in 580, ruled by a succession of presiding princes contested by Persia, Byzantium, the Khazars, and the Arabs, until the Bagrationi restored the kingship in 888.
