Principality of Antioch

1098 – 1268
PrincipalityEurope

Founded in 1098 when the Norman crusader Bohemond I of Taranto seized the great Syrian city of Antioch after a grueling siege during the First Crusade, becoming one of the four Crusader states of Outremer.

Reduced steadily by the Ayyubids and then the Mamluks over the 13th century; the city of Antioch itself fell to Sultan Baybars in 1268, ending the principality after 170 years.
