Prince-Bishopric of Passau

1217 – 1803
TheocracyEurope

A small state at the meeting of the Danube, Inn and Ilz whose bishops ruled barely 900 km² while their diocese once stretched down the Danube past Vienna.

Abolished by the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803: Passau city and the lands on the left bank of the Inn went to Bavaria, the rest to Ferdinand III's Electorate of Salzburg and thence to Austria; all of it was Bavarian by 1805/06.
