Pre-Kerma Culture

3500 BC – 2500 BC
ChiefdomAfrica

An early agro-pastoral Nubian culture of Upper Nubia whose fortified settlement at the Kerma site — fifty round huts inside a wooden palisade — suggests emerging statelets, fewer but likely larger than the contemporary A-Group polities of Lower Nubia.

Developed directly into the Kerma culture and, later, the Kingdom of Kerma at the same site from c. 2500 BC onward.
