Portuguese Timor

1702 – 1975
ColonyAsia

Portuguese colonial territory covering the eastern half of the island of Timor, one of the last vestiges of the Portuguese Estado da India trading network in Southeast Asia.

Portuguese withdrawal amid the 1974 Carnation Revolution triggered a civil war and Indonesian invasion in December 1975; the territory was formally decolonized only in 2002 as independent Timor-Leste (already canonical, id: timor_leste) after a long Indonesian occupation.
