The “Tobacco people” farmed the wooded slopes of the Blue Mountains, growing tobacco traded across the Great Lakes from their towns of the Deer and Wolf nations.
Their chief town Etharita fell to a Haudenosaunee raid in December 1649; the starving survivors fled west in 1650 and, merged with Wendat refugees, became the modern Wyandot/Wyandotte nation.
