Founded in 1528 by Sultan Muzaffar Shah I, eldest son of the last Malacca sultan, Perak carried the Malacca royal line into the tin-rich Perak River valley. It exported tin to Aceh, Dutch and later British buyers, and came under a British Resident after the 1874 Pangkor Engagement.
