Pequot

Hegemons of the wampum trade on the lower Thames and Mystic rivers.

Destroyed in the Pequot War; the Mystic massacre (May 1637) and Treaty of Hartford (1638) dissolved the nation and even banned its name. Remnants regathered at Mashantucket from 1666.
