132 BC – 214
KingdomAsia

A small but strategically vital Arab kingdom centered on Edessa in Upper Mesopotamia, ruled by the Abgarid dynasty, which oscillated between Parthian/Sasanian and Roman suzerainty and is notable as one of the earliest kingdoms to adopt Christianity.

Incorporated as a Roman province (colonia) c. 214 CE when Emperor Caracalla deposed Abgar IX Severus; the Abgarid dynasty continued in a purely nominal capacity until c. 242 CE, after which direct Roman rule was complete.
