Old Great Bulgaria

A Bulgar tribal state on the western Pontic-Caspian steppe founded by Khan Kubrat in 632, distinct from and predating the First Bulgarian Empire (681+); disintegrated under Khazar pressure in 668, after which Kubrat's sons scattered to found the First Bulgarian Empire, Volga Bulgaria, and settlements in Pannonia/Macedonia and Italy.

Disintegrated under Khazar military pressure in 668 following the death of Khan Kubrat; the Bulgar tribes dispersed under his sons, one of whom (Asparukh) founded the First Bulgarian Empire in the Balkans.
